CALVES AND MORTALITY:
Young calves are fragile until they are weaned and the mortality of young calves is a major problem for dairy farms. Most pre-weaning deaths (except deaths during calving)are caused by respiratory and diarrhoeal diseases. A study conducted in France shows that the mortality risk of calves aged less than one month is 10,2 % of which almost 7 deaths out of 10 occur within the first 48 hours.
